10.6 Atheism and Healthy Longevity

Physician's Notebooks 10 - http://physiciansnotebook.blogspot.com - See Homepage

Update 21 Septr 2021.
6. Atheism and Longevity
are connected: the idea of continuation after death, of a heaven or hell ruled by god or godlike creature, and even the primitive religion idea of interface of life with non-life (inanimate god of rock) are, atheists believe, a mental defense against the fact that the consciousness of each alive human is a one-and-only, temporary thing, and that death is total termination in an eternity of blank nothingness (Blank out!). An atheist - especially one aware of the historical context of being a living human consciousness at this exquisite moment in human history and lucky to be born in a locale experiencing the fruit of twenty-first century technology and its connected cultural evolution - will place the highest value on the continuation of individual consciousness in participation of the group reality  in a healthy body for as long as possible. After all, if you believe in heaven, you may, as some religious fanatics do, want to die sooner. (Alternatively, chronic anxiety over dying may be fueled by worry about hell.)
One does not become atheist because it is good for longevity. Other way round! One becomes atheist because convinced by the data and then strives and often succeeds in living long, healthily, happily and lovingly.
