11j  The Immediate Future/What Can One Do?/Update 25 Septr 2021
Before any progress can be made, the present civilization must be deconstructed & reconstructed.
Voters should elect leaders with knowledge of science to replace the present science-ignorant politicians.
The future ought to be a place where the scientific method will determine the laws and its aims, and where exploration for colonization of Moon and Mars, and its goal to understand Universe are the overarching aimTechnology should be used to create a society free of insecurities of life and free from forcing manual labor on our least intelligent workers; and it should give an environment in which no one over age 20's need to work (Labor requirements that cannot be met by automation may be fulfilled by volunteer youth.) And an ecology that respects the other animals and plants and the inanimate earth! In this leisure society, people will pursue creative careers and produce non commercial, non prize-winning personal art while the society as a whole moves forward in science and technology with space exploration and colonization a foremost goal. There will be little place for business or markets. Utopian! You exclaim? Why not? But, also, achievable if we all have the will!
Climate Change/Global Warming/Hothouse Earth is here now and getting worse and is not going to reverse anytime soon. My advice aims at best survival for those who achieve healthy longevity. And I am talking to readers living now in 2021 in advanced countries or otherwise well educated.  And now we are in the midst of Covid-19, which should force us to be aware of our vulnerability to quirks of nature.
Educate self. Follow your own strengths. Keep loose and cool, which means free from sentiment, free from wasteful relationships. Cultivate good friendships which could be in the family or even traditional marriage; or other companionship in which each person gives something for both to prosper and to be happy. With all of us, opportunities and decision will arise where we may change the course of each one's life – a living place, a vocation. Places to consider relocating to are the following spots: to Winnipeg Canada (or other areas of north Canada) for an English-, French-, or Amerindian-Cree-speaking (or learning) person or to surrounding northerly areas; to Khabarovsk Russia Far East (for a Euro or Asian). Also the Scandinavian countries —- Sweden, Norway and Finland. For Spanish speakers, Chile and Argentina. For Africans the Union of South Africa or island of Reunion.    And, of course, Australia and New Zealand! Also, if you are already living in a politically and socially stable and pleasant environment like Japan, even though there is risk of earthquake and global warming ocean tsunami, do not runaway from such an otherwise good place.  Places like Japan are getting fewer and farther between, and the high technology of Japan may be able to cope with the rate of environmental change.  Above all, stability is a key to social survival.
Be flexible; include in your education at least 1 other important language; and, also, in youth, take study periods outside of your own country as part of primary education. (But keep in mind, that the latest computer technology is going to make the knowledge of important foreign languages less important for a success in life.) Keep alert to changes and be part of the new culture that values extraterrestrial travel and colonization of the Moon and Mars now. And learn from everyone and everything. Basically be an Earthian rather than an American or Russian or Chinese or Muslim or democracy-or-any-political-system-lover or whatever. Do not be loyal to religion (It does not mean you can't believe in it; just don't mindlessly follow movements based in it), gender or sexual orientation, or to race, ethnicity or nationality. And value our fellow animals and the plants and the inanimate parts of Earth.
Immigration Policy: As a part of a democratic, science-oriented modern society —- such as I see in Japan, —-- my advice is based on our entering a chaotic period where peoples from the equatorial areas are going to try as many, as much and as strongly as possible to go north or south to more advanced, temperate countries. If we had a united world government run on scientific principles, I would advise making this movement safe and logical. But we do not. Therefore, the advanced countries should try to prevent, as much as is practicable, immigration by less educated types. For the USA this is not practicable because almost everyone there is an immigrant or a generational offspring of immigrants and because it is geographically not practicable to seal off the USA borders. But countries like Sweden, Norway, Finland, and also island nations like Japan and UK are easy to seal-off. For these, an intelligent limited immigration policy starting now is essential because these countries can serve as the core of the coming Science-Civilization so the relative tightening of borders to immigration will strengthen them against the coming chaos.
I think the above generalizations are more important than the specifics of what to do. Humanity is heading for a century change that may be catastrophic but that at least is going to be a big change, and we, the New People (Also addressed to all people and anyone can become “New People” by changing cultural aims.), are going to prosper and, calmly contemplate replacement of the old culture (today's ignorant persons who lack the curiosity or imagination or energy to heed the warnings) and we shall have little regret (although we still may feel compassion and try to help) those who may be forced to suffer because of their own unwillingness to learn the new ways. And we New People roll up our sleeves for a new beginning.
